I can't progress without communicating, without sharing my thoughts...without blogging. For the past two weeks i've been checking out my fellow bloggers, reading your thoughts, lines of inquiry trying to figure out who may have similar questions to my own, ive joined Linkedin but i haven't commented or expressed my interest. Ive even been reading through my own blog looking at what my thought process was this time last year...and that's where i get confused. I had so many questions, i even made it to having thoughts of my own line of inquiry but now i have more questions more thoughts and i wonder if the route i was trying to go down really was the right one.
I want module 2 to be a journey one that is really focused on me and will pave the way for my future and the future of A3 dance company. In the past i've looked at dance exams, if they are needed to be a better dancer and i've looked at weather Street dance should conform to formal exams due to containing self-expression and creativity. This is all good and well but maybe i went to far to quickly. I can get to these questions but first i have to start by questioning myself, and how i am as a teacher and manager of a childrens dance company. What do i need to do to make myself better to keep the students i already have and to attract more. How do i teach and is it the best way? Are there other methods i could you that would engage my students better? Do i need to take a " hands off" approach? What makes me different from the other dance schools and as a Teacher, what can i offer? (I think this last question will be the one to lead me onto the questions i asked last time round)
All of these questions are what i really need to answer this is where i need to start. I need to use the resources close to me the teachers i see on a regular basis, the parents who keep bringing there children to me, my students, students of other teachers. There's just so much i could do!
The bare minium i will do is complete all the tasks set for module 2. I know i need to do so much more than this to acahieve my award title. Stay with me!! If you have any comments or thoughts that could help i'd love to hear them and i'll definately try to comment as much as possible on your blogs.
Ive asked to join a few SIG groups on Linkedin so if your one of them please add me!! I aim to start my own shortly so keep an eye out.
Hi Alicia,
ReplyDeleteThe title of your blog caught my attention and as I read through I feel the same! The amount of questions I have is endless and there is so many avenues I want to explore a bit like yourself.
Sometimes I think it helps to just start writing and ideas emerge just like when you came to the self conclusion of the importance of asking 'What makes me different - what can I offer?'
Maybe you could write a list of what you feel does make you different then if there is something you feel is not on that list that should be or something that you want to improve on then this may lead to an inquiry that will benefit and enhance your practice so you will therefore be really interested in it! - I think I might go and do that myself too!
I think that I need to find a question that I am really passionate about but I worry that this may only benefit me and not other practioners? What do you think?
I also noticed that you have worked within youth clubs and community projects. I am interested in exploring how live theatre and drama workshops can be made more accessible to a wider range of young people. Do you have any advice for creating contacts to work in this field? Did many of your students have accsess to live theatre?
Do you think a question such as:
'How can theatre be made more accessible to a wider audience of young people?'
would be beneficial to others in this field?
Thanks
Hollie x
Hey Hollie, thanks for reading and commenting. Its so crazy when you have so much to ask yet you can only pursue one avenue. As you can see, that's what's getting me. I really like the idea of writing a list of things that make me different and from there seeing what I want to offer but don't and the reasons why. I definitely think it's time to draw up a mind map.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to you finding a question your passionate about, I think no matter what your question is, there will Always be someone to benefit from it apart from you. (That's what I think anyway!)
I think the idea of making live theatre and drama workshops accessible to young people is great and really relates to what I'm trying to do. My advice would be to decide what age group you want to target and figure out how to market to them, let them know why these classes will be worth their while, will they get to perform for audiences? Will they 've working on projects within the workshops? Maybe set up a facebook page and go into schools. Find out what you would need to do to get maybe a small slot in an assembly. From my own experience I know young people like to "see" what they're getting.
I hope this advice helps Hollie, let me know how you get on with your line of inquiry, I think its great and you as well as others could gain a lot from it, including me!
Good luck!
